MOHALI: It can be considered as another missed opportunity for Mohali and Ropar district that the proposed Punjab Bio-Technology Park will now come up near Lalru, in Patiala district, in place of Mohali.
Due to procedural delays in acquiring the land identified for the development of the park on part of the district administration, Beckons Industries Limited, which is to set up the Rs 100 crore project with the assistance of Punjab State Council for Science and Technology, has finalised the deal for 90 acre land in Lalru.
‘‘The Patiala district administration was more keen in acquiring the land for us and the acquisition notification is likely to come through soon. We would have liked to set up the park in Mohali, which was the original plan, but the land that had been identified near Sohana village could not be acquired in time,’’ said Gurmeet Singh Bhatia, managing director of the Biotech park project.
Expressing the possibility of the work beginning in a short time as soon as the land had been acquired, Bhatia said that a memorandum of understanding had been signed with a Canadian company Global Connect for infrastructure development in the park.
